Black Mountain Golf Course: Review

In 2015 I got to play Black Mountain Golf Course, and am finally going ot post my review. My first impression of this course is that it felt very tucked away and exclusive. You drive up the side of the hill/mountain to get to the clubhouse. You do pass some residential buildings along the way, but as you get closer to the course the houses seem to get more luxourious… the first signs of an exclusive area.

The clubhouse was well kept and fairly new looking. It had a good sized proshop and a big restaurant. It was a Thursday morning when we went there, and, while there was other people on the course it was pretty quiet. The price was on the highest end of all the courses we played, with the round costing $95…. However, this price included a cast and a $10 food voucher for the restaurant for after the round, so relatively this wasn't too bad. That being said the power cart is mandatory so you can't get the round cheaper thinking you walk. Plus, this is a long course with a lot elevation changes so you wouldn't want to walk it anyways.

Two Eagles Golf Course: Review

Two Eagles golf course

Last summer, while in Kelowna, I got to play Two Eagles Golf Course. I took lots of notes and strokes while playing this one so I could write a review for you guys.

This course is located in West Kelowna (Westbank), which was convenient for us since we were staying near there. It is a shorter course, but not a true par 3 course. There was a big mix of par 3 and par 4s, with a couple of par 5s in the mix. This means, for the most part you won't be using your longer clubs that often, but can still bring them out on a few holes.

ERNIE ELS 6 PUTTS ON THE FIRST HOLE!

In case you missed it yesterday, Ernie Els, moved way up on my list of favorite golfers!

Why?! You ask…

Well, I called a bunch of my buddies on the tour to wish them luck at The Masters like I usually do… We chatted about golf obviously, and I explained that my putting was struggling the other day and how it was frustrating. A couple of them told me, “Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. You just have to brush it off and keep going!”.

Right. I thought to myself.

Then, my pal Ernie Els steps up on the first hole and takes on for the team.

The team, in this scenario, is all of us amatuer golfers who struggle on the green every once in a while.

Ernie was within 3 ft, yes 3ft, the type of shot you would expect pro's to just pick up the ball and walk away because it is a gimmie.

Ernie took his shot…. HE MISSED?!?! What?

Then we went on to miss the next 3 putts to ultimately end up with a total of 6 putts! Ouch!

Have a look at the video here:

After this WORST FIRST HOLE IN MASTERS HISTORY, Ernie finish the rest of the round shooting only 3 over par, for a total of +8.

If this was me, I would be on tilt, and the rest of the round would be full of boogies! But Ernie pulled it together pretty well.

So, I just want to say THANK YOU ERNIE!!

Thank you for being a nice guy and showing me that anyone can miss those putts.

Thank you for showing me that it is possible to regroup and play well after this happens.

Thank you for reminding me that I should never pick up the ball on the green and assume it is a gimmie.

You took one for the team on a world stage. That takes guts, and that's why you moved up on my list of favorite golfers!

Good luck in the rest of the tournament. You can check out the Leader Board Here.

Watch An 11 Year Old Hit A Hole-In-One In front of Tiger Woods!

11 year old hole in one

While the title gives away what is going to happen in the video, I want to set the stage for it anyways…

11 year old, Taylor Crozier, out of Corpus Christi, was one of only a handful of kids selected to play on a Tiger Woods' new course for kids (“The Playgrounds” at BlueJack National, which is a course for kids). So already Taylor was one out of a million (or more) that was chosen to go…

It was like winning the lottery.

Lucky kid…

Then Taylor gets to take the inagugural shot at new course…IN FRONT OF TIGER WOODS!!

Really lucky (nervous) kid…

THEN, he goes ahead an hits a HOLE-IN-ONE!!!! Unreal.

Have a watch.

Beat that shot, Tiger!

The only sad thing about this story is that this could be the highlight of his entire golf career and he is so young. I sure hope it isn't, and he goes on to blow my mind a few more times.

Pro Golfer, Jordan Spieth’s New Dream Home

Jordan Spieth had an amazing year last year golfing with a few tournament wins and few new records. So what is a guy to do after he wins all that money? Buy a new house of course. And not just any house, but a house that was originally listed at $9.5 million! Apparently, Spieth is almost as good at negotiating as he is on the course, since he bought the house for just over $7 million (after the seller dropped the price to $8.5M).

There are a lot of amazing features of this house including a basketball court, 12 car garage, pedal facets in the kitchen, and so much more. I will let the pictures do all the talking. The house is breathtaking and I am happy for him because he deserves it.

What Business Golf Teaches About Leadership

Golf is the sport of choice for many and is especially prevalent in the business community. The game is played passionately and with high expectations. It might even get frustrating and difficult between (and during) holes but merely a single great shot makes it all worthwhile. Leadership is similar to golf. Leaders are passionately and enthusiastic about their responsibilities. Their hard work, determination, and passion can yield successful results in some cases but in some they get to face dismal results. There are numerous leadership lessons that can be learned from business golf. Some of them are discussed below:

1.     In Certain Situations, You Have to Go Big

Both in golf and leadership, there comes a time where you have to take some risks. In these situations, a safe strategy might keep you in the race but in order to achieve success, you simply have to take a chance and go big. In the office this can mean you decide to invest in that product you’ve been thinking about that costs a lot but might bring in high end clients. On the course, this could mean trying to clear that water hazard to hit the green and shave a stroke off your score.
