Fort Macleod posesses a fully mature and challenging 9 hole layout that is a delight to play. One of its best holes is the redesigned 4th-a picturesque 173 yard par 3 that requires an accurate shot from the tee to avoid trouble.
Fort Macleod not only holds the destinction of being the first golf course in Alberta, but also the oldest layout in Canada west of Winnipeg. Golf has been played on this land since 1890 when it was just a series of grassy flast near the old Northwest Mounted Police Fort. As one might expect for a course over 100 years old, many changes have occurred to its layout. Some of the biggest improvements to the course were the replacement of the original holes, plus the installation of grass greens.
