Always on Top of Their Game
Not shy to spend energy and money on research, development, and rigorous testing, TaylorMade are constantly researching and trying new technologies or new combinations and they have had a string of successes. The RBZ RocketBallz Driver is no exception. It takes over from the Burner Superfast 2.0 and has proved to be a great hit with many golfers.
It fits in the game-improvement driver category and is built for greater speed and distance with generous forgiveness. They have reduced the shaft length by half an inch and the 46-inch shaft will give you more control with no noticeable reduction in speed.
They have also managed to keep it super light at less than 300 grams while still incorporating an adjustable hosel for those who prefer some control over their loft.
Let’s start with what it does not have, there are no moveable weights and it does not have an adjustable sole plate as in some earlier models.
While this might not suit all players, it is incredibly light (under 300 grams), has great aerodynamics, grip components, and offers a host of other features and adjustability. You should easily be able to swing faster and achieve good distance and good carry with an ample amount of forgiveness.
Flight Control Technology
The Rocketballz Driver uses what they call a “Flight Control Technology” (FCT) hosel which enables you to choose from eight options to tweak loft and lie as well as clubface angle. You can decrease or increase loft by 1.5° and alter the face angle to 3° open or 3° closed.
Inverted Cone Technology
The Inverted Cone Technology (ICT) increases the size of the sweet spot and will maximize the speed on off-center hits as well as maximize distance on accurate hits.
The have also employed a thick-thin crown construction for a lower center of gravity for higher launch with lower spin. The TaylorMade RBZ driver is available in three lofts: 9.5°, 10.5°, HL.
The driver comes with a standard 55-gram Matrix X-Con 5 graphite shaft which most testers found perfectly suitable.
TaylorMade has gone with the matte white crown and black face combination which they believe make alignment easier and better. Many of the testers and reviewers agree with this while for some it does take a bit of getting used to.
Feel and Sound
The Rocketballz gives good tactile and audio feedback on mishits so you know immediately if you have not hit it dead center. When hit square on, you will get a powerful, solid sound that is pleasing.
What the Reviews Had to Say
There were literally hundreds of reviews on the TaylorMade Rocketballz Driver and they were almost unanimous in their praise of the driver. The only negative comments I came across were in reference to the player’s own ability, not the equipment. I am sure they can work on that.
Most people commented on the main aspects of the driver: distance and forgiveness. Many said that they noticed an immediate and significant improvement in distance since switching to the Rocketballz Driver and appreciated the ease of launch and forgiveness.
Another very common thread was their praise for the price or value for money of the driver.
While the technology and features, as well as professional testers and reviewers comments, are always important to read, the unbiased opinion of those who have spent money on the club and taken the time to make a comment are always valuable reading.
The Final Word
Overall, the Rocketballz is a solid driver that will help golfers from the beginner to a relatively low handicap player improve their swing speed and increase distance. At the same time, you have adjustability to fine tune it to your preference and a lot of forgiveness to salvage those inevitable mishits. Ultra fast swingers will probably find it a tad light for them but for the average golfer, it is a highly recommended, dependable driver.
